Questa immagine ottenuta da Copernicus Sentinel-2 ci mostra Chongqing, la più grande municipalità della Cina.
Chongqing si trova a sud-ovest della Cina centrale e copre un’area di oltre 80 000 kmq, corrispondente circa alla superficie dell’intera Austria. Il suo vasto territorio è attraversato da fiumi e montagne. Più esattamente i monti Daba a nord, i Wu ad est, i Wulig a sud-est ed infine i monti Dalou a sud.
La città di Chongqing, uno dei più importanti centri del commercio in Cina, è anche conosciuta come una ‘citta di montagna’ a causa del suo territorio accidentato e delle sue gole profonde. Chongqing è un centro manifatturiero e di trasporto tra i più importanti ed è divenuta la più grande sede della produzione automobilistica in Cina.
La città sorge alla confluenza dei fiumi Yangtze e Jialing, dove si incontrano i colori contrastanti dei due fiumi. Lo Yangtze è visibile di colore marrone a destra nell’immagine, mentre le Verdi acque dello Jialing sono visibili a sinistra. I fiumi fanno di Chongqing la più grande città portuale della Cina nella regione sud-occidentale.
Con un percorso di 6300 km lo Yangtze è il fiume più lungo sia della Cina che dell’Asia ed il terzo fiume più lungo al mondo. Il fiume Jialing nasce dal canto suo tra i monti Qin ed incontra lo Yangtze dopo un percorso di circa 1190 km.
Copernicus Sentinel-2 è una missione a due satelliti. Ogni satellite dispone di una camera da ripresa ad alta risoluzione che riprende immagini della superficie della Terra in 13 differenti bande spettrali. La missione è principalmente impiegata per seguire i cambiamenti dell’uso del suolo e per monitorare lo stato di salute della nostra vegetazione.

Chongqing, the largest municipality in China, is featured in this Copernicus Sentinel-2 image.
Covering an area of over 80 000 sq km, around the size of Austria, Chongqing is located in southwest-central China. Chongqing covers a large area crisscrossed by rivers and mountains. These are the Daba Mountains in the north, the Wu Mountains in the east, the Wuling Mountains in the southeast and the Dalou Mountains in the south.
The city of Chongqing, one of the most important economic centres in China, is known as a ‘mountain city’ owing to its rugged terrain and steep gorges. Chongqing is a major manufacturing and transportation centre, and has become the biggest automobile manufacturing base in China.
The city lies at the confluence of the Yangtze and Jialing rivers, where the clashing colours of the rivers meet. The Yangtze river is visible in brown in the right of the image, while the green waters of the Jialing can be seen in the left. The rivers make Chongqing China's biggest port city in the southwest region.
With a length of 6300 km, the Yangtze is the longest river in both China and Asia and the third longest river in the world. The Jialing River, rises in the Qin Mountains, and joins the Yangtze after a course of around 1190 km.
Copernicus Sentinel-2 is a two-satellite mission. Each satellite carries a high-resolution camera that images Earth’s surface in 13 spectral bands. The mission is mostly used to track changes in the way land is being used and to monitor the health of our vegetation.
